Steven R. Levinson, Ph.D.
Combining the unique perspective of both having a successful career in industrial Leadership (with “bottom line” responsibility) and experience as Certified Management Black Belt and Shingijutsu Lean Practitioner, Steve works with Leaders to help them focus on areas that will have the greatest measurable impact upon their organizations.
Spanning a wide variety of assignments, he has demonstrated a strong track record in helping leaders and teams implement and sustain significant improvements in cost, quality, speed to market, productivity, safety and employee satisfaction. He is adept in taking complex subjects and presenting them in a concise, pragmatic manner and providing coaching in their application.
Steve has worked with Leaders and teams in application of appropriate Lean Thinking and Six Sigma tools not only to traditional manufacturing processes, but also extensions to strategic planning, Hosin planning, R&D, new product and process development, health services, intellectual property management, not-for-profit agencies, very large capital engineering projects and administrative/transactional activities.
Recent accomplishments include:
- Worked with Hospital Management to establish the scope for the design of a major facility renovation and process improvement project, identified a framework of desired results/features and working with a team delivered these in a plan with a significantly improved process flow, process mistake-proofing, decreased waste and improved employee morale (due to their involvement).
- Leading a cross functional team to greater than 50% improvements in through-put time, cycle time, number of operators and productivity along with significantly reducing the number of escaping defects for the manufacture of a major new product.
- Developing a training strategy and materials to support a major upgrade in an internal Corporate Capital Process and delivering this training to all key customers, staff and management. This improvement standardized the process; removing non-valued added activities and enabling engineers and staff to work with more focus and efficiency.
- Successfully applied a combination of Lean, Six Sigma and Leadership tools to develop a Divisional improvement program focusing on elimination of waste and faster cycle times for new product and process development. Worked with key clients to identify and value improvement areas, developed strategies, lead interdisciplinary teams and delivered multi-million dollar savings annually.
