DESIGN FOR SIX SIGMA (DFSS) TRAINING
Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is a structured, rigorous, and disciplined process for designing products or services that meet Six Sigma quality level in performance and reliability. It is a product development (PD) methodology with a “built-in” toolset to be used during the development of new or substantially new product, manufacturing processes or services. It begins when the need for a new product or service has been identified. It ends when the product has been transferred to the manufacture for steady state production or for routine delivery of a service.
Transformation Partners offers two methods of training:
One is the traditional method that works with the students through a series of one week DFSS six sigma training cycles followed by a four to six week application period, where the students work on their six sigma projects. This method works best when general DFSS training is needed and there are no critical or specific new product development efforts.
The traditional method:
- Training is conducted in 4 one-week events.
- There is a 4-6 week gap between each event to apply principles and work on project.
- Project work can be done in teams.
- Coaching and Mentoring in the application of DFSS tools and methods are provided to the teams as needed.
- Certificate issued at completion based on class attendance and project meeting six sigma training objectives.
The second approach is best used when there is a new product development effort. With the second method, we call “Just in Time”, the DFSS training takes place in parallel with the design effort from beginning to end.
Just-in-Time (JIT) DFSS Program:
- This approach is best used when a new product development initiative is launched.
- The training is tailored for each individual product development team as it is proceeding through the development phases.
- The workshops content changes as the team progresses in its product development effort.
- This approach delivers what the team needs when the team needs it.
